Abstract: Since the Reformation in 1998 in Indonesia, the issue of affirmative action to raise women's quota in the legislature has resurfaced. Minahasa district has the largest number of women legislative members in Indonesia. Wonosobo district has the least number of women legislators. This research conducted in Minahasa uses a mix of experimental method and qualitative approach to find out how respondents rated female politicians and male politicians, followed up with in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The results show that female respondents saw the male politicians to be more competent, which is in line with the stereotyping gender theory. The social structure affects the women's electability as politicians. In Wonosobo, religious groups do not approve of women legislators.
