Abstract

Indonesian has been recognized as an unity in diversity nation, it can be seen from many ethnic, cultural, religion such as the habit in Akit Community in Rupat Island. This research want to know how Islam influence Akit’s culture. This research is analytical descriptive by using juridical empirical approach. The Sources of data are primary data that is derived from research in the field and secondary data is taken based on library. This research was conducted at Akit Society domiciled in Rupat Island, by using data collecting technique as questionnaires and interview. The analysis data is done qualitatively with conclusion using deductive. The results found that the influence of Islamic norms are very strong in Akit Society life, although they are Buddhist. This Society is under the rule of Muslim Malay Kingdom because they have been a part of the Gasib Siak Kingdom. The diversity of Islamic and Buddhist has become a new culturals in Akit Society such as in weddings, funeral rituals, inheritances, and baby shower where there has been a mixture of Islamic and Buddhist without eliminating their unity in the community. With the acculturation of religion norms produce a unified culture, that will continue the Unity in Diversity.
