Abstract

This paper presents the first research steps and required foundations for the development of a method for a structured and multi-scale modelling of production systems. Thereby the importance to support the modelling process is stated and the motivation for the development of such a method is pointed out. State-of-the-art concepts in system theory as well as suitable modelling methods and their applicability on the production system modelling are analysed. The approach and the process of modelling a multi-scale production system are firstly introduced. The paper concludes with the selection of suitable enabling technologies and a roadmap of future activities.
