Functional Constraints Added to an ICA Separating Algorithm: an Example on Magnetoencephalographic Signals

Abstract

A constraint function expressing a priori information about the structure of data recorded in a MEG experiment is used to bias ICA towards a more realistic decomposition. To do so, a function measuring sensitivity to the stimulation considered is added to the usual contrast function to be optimized. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm effectively succeeds in separating physiologically significant activities that standard ICA fails to distinguish in half of the cases.
