Foreword: This volume contains the proceedings of the Second Edition of International Conference on Imaging Theory and Applications (IMAGAPP 2010) and the First International Conference on Information Visualization Theory and Applications (IVAPP 2010), organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Communication and Control (INSTICC) and Technical Co-Sponsorship by the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC). These two conferences aim at becoming a major point of contact between researchers, engineers and practitioners in Imaging and Information Visualization. We hope that the proceedings here published, demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight technical problems in each field that are challenging and worthwhile. IMAGAPP 2010 received 27 paper submissions from that were reviewed by an international program committee of 75 expertises. From the submitted papers, 2 papers were published and presented as full papers, 7 were accepted for short presentation and 1 for poster presentation. These numbers, representing a full-paper acceptance ratio of around 7%, and a total oral acceptance ratio of 33%, shows the intention of the organizers to initiate IMAGAPP as a high quality forum on imaging applications. IVAPP 2010 received 31 paper submissions from that were reviewed by an international program committee of 41 expertises. To evaluate each submission, we used a double-blind evaluation method and each paper was reviewed by at least two experts from the International Program Committee. In the end, 5 papers were selected for oral presentation and for publication as full papers, 4 papers were accepted for short presentation and 3 were accepted for poster presentation. The result was a full-paper acceptance ratio of 16%. Moreover, the conferences also featured a number of keynote lectures delivered by internationally well known experts thus contributing to increase the overall quality of the conference and to provide a deeper understanding of the conference interest fields. We hope that these Conference Proceedings, indexed by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index, INSPEC, DBLP and EI (awaiting confirmation of indexation from the last one), may help the Imaging and Information Visualization community to find interesting research work. Furthermore, a short list will be selected to be expanded into a forthcoming book of VISIGRAPP Selected Papers to be published by Springer during 2010. In order to promote the development of professional networks the organizing committee has prepared a Conference Dinner in the evening of May 20th. We hope that you enjoy this exciting conference and have an unforgettable stay in the beautiful city of Angers. Finally, we would like to express our thanks, first of all, to the authors of the technical papers, whose work and dedication make possible to put together a program that we believe very exciting and of high technical quality. Next, we would like to thank all the members of the program committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for sharing their vision in their talks. Special thanks should be addressed to the INSTICC Steering Committee whose invaluable work made possible this event. We wish you all an exciting conference and an unforgettable stay in Angers. We hope to meet you again for the 3rd edition of IMAGAPP and 2nd edition of IVAPP, details of which will be shortly available at http://www.imagapp.visigrapp.org and http://www.ivapp.visigrapp.org.
