Foreword: This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth International Workshop on Wireless Information Systems (WIS) held in conjunction with the Seventh International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems in Miami, Florida (USA) in May 2005. The WIS2005 workshop builds on the success of previous WIS workshops (Ciudad Real (2002, Spain; Angers (2003), France; and Porto (2004), Portugal). The aim of this workshop is to serve as a forum for researchers and practitioners to meet and share expertise in wireless information systems. Wireless information systems represent an emerging research area, and the papers contained in this volume reflect the multidisciplinary character and broad spectrum of this field. Some of the papers address challenges posed by wireless information systems such as security and privacy issues, quality of wireless information, storage and mobility management. Other papers report on experiences developing mobile commerce applications and location-based services. Such applications are based on the unique properties of handheld wireless mobile devices that are equipped with a variety of communication capabilities. We wish to thank all authors and reviewers for their valuable contributions to WIS 2005, and we wish them a successful continuation of their research. We also want to thank the ICEIS team – especially Joaquim Filipe and Vitor Pedrosa – for hosting our event in the more global frame of the international ICEIS conference series, and finally we want to thank the general workshop chairs Slimane Hammoudi and Olivier Camp for their hard work in making WIS a successful event. We wish all authors and attendees an exciting workshop, and a pleasant stay in the exciting place of Miami. (More)
