Welcome to NLUCS 2005, the 2nd International Workshop on Natural Language Understanding and Cognitive Science, held on 24 May 2005 in Miami, USA. This workshop was organised in conjunction with the 7th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS 2005). The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for academic and industrial researchers in natural language understanding and Cognitive Science to share in their results and experience. This year’s keynote speaker was Dr Srini Narayanan of the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), Berkeley CA, whose presentation is entitled “Computational Cognitive Semantics“. Of the 30 papers received, 13 were selected as full papers for oral presentation, and 7 were accepted for poster presentation. Each paper was reviewed by at least two members of the programme committee who provided critical evaluations and suggestions for improvements. They worked hard and we wish to acknowledge their contribution. The expert
reviewers are: M. Aretoulaki J. Barnden C. Day B. Endres-Niggemeye A. Gelbukh S. Helmreich C. Higgins A. Monaghan D. Molla C. Mota J. Mothe M. Nunes P. Rayson R. Schwitter F. Sedes C. Shan C. Soule Dupuy G. Thompson D. Tufis Y. Wilks P. Windridge This workshop would not be possible without the dedication of many colleagues, both at Staffordshire University, Institute Polytechnic of Setubal and Florida International University. Special thanks to Vitor Pedrosa for his hard work and patience. The workshop also acknowledges the support of our sponsors, and INSTICC in particular, and we wish to thank the organising committee of Florida International University for their warm hospitality. We hope you enjoy NLUCS 2005 and ICEIS 2005, and we look forward to seeing you all at NLUCS 2006 and ICEIS 2006.
