Foreword: We have an enormous pleasure to welcome you in Albufeira (Portugal) for this workshop. We would like to thank all those who made many valuable contributions for the First International Workshop on Veterinary Biosignals and Biodevices (VBB). The First International Workshop on Veterinary Biosignals and Biodevices aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working on animal science, to present their work and to share their knowledge among others. By making it inside the Biosignals and Biodevices Conference, it will promote bridges between Veterinary, Human and Engineering sciences. The workshop will also offer the opportunity to fill the gap between academic researchers, practitioners and industrial parts. The 1st VBB has encouraged authors to submit papers in animals biosignals monitoring, anesthesia modeling tools, anesthesia automatic delivery systems, anesthesia monitoring, computer aided emergency medicine and intensive care, behavior tracking systems, veterinary telemetry device, veterinary image processing systems, pharmacology models and software applications, respiratory diagnostic and monitoring devices, oncology diagnostics and therapeutics, veterinary assisted surgery, assisted reproduction, reproduction and fertility, biosignals and biodevices applied in veterinary nutrition and wildlife tracking devices for example. This volume has taken shape as a result of the contributions from a number of researchers. We are grateful to all authors who have submitted their papers to enrich the workshop proceedings; these contributions will enable fruitful discussions and large dissemination of scientific knowledge. We wish to thank all members of the organizing committee whose contribution is crucial for the success of the workshop. We hope that this workshop in the first step for future symposiums, were techniques, advanced prototypes, recent advances in acquisition devices, software applications, diagnosis systems and tools applied to veterinary sciences are discussed.
