This book contains the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Sensor Networks (SENSORNETS 2013), which was organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). The Conference Program includes oral presentations (full papers and short papers) and posters, organized in seven simultaneous tracks: “Sensor Networks Software and Architectures”, “Wireless Information Networks”, “Hardware”, “Data Manipulation”, “Signal Processing”, “Obstacles” and “Applications and Uses”. Furthermore, we are proud to announce that the plenary program also includes five plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely – Niki Trigoni (Oxford University Computing Laboratory, U.K.), Mischa Dohler, (Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), Spain.), Belur V. Dasarathy (Information Fusion, U.S.), John Stankovic (University of Virginia, U.S.) and Luis M. Correia (IST/IT-Technical University of
Lisbon, Portugal). SENSORNETS 2013 received 57 paper submissions from 24 countries, of every continent. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in SENSORNETS topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, 23 papers were selected for oral presentation (9 full papers and 14 short papers) and 17 papers were selected for poster presentation. The full paper acceptance ratio of SENSORNETS 2013 is 15%, and the total oral acceptance ratio (including full papers and short papers) 40%. These strict acceptance ratios show the intention to preserve a high quality forum which we expect to develop further next year. A post-conference Special Issue of the Information Fusion Journal is planned for publication of an extended version of a restricted number of original high quality papers presented during SENSORNETS 2013. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library. The SENSORNETS conference series also intends to be a meeting place where information exchange occurs and where collaboration projects emerge from social contacts amongst the participants. Therefore, in order to promote the development of research and professional networks the SENSORNETS 2013 includes in its social program a Conference Social Event & Banquet in the evening of February 20th. We would like to express our thanks to all participants, and particularly to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference. Secondly we owe gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a respectable conference is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in the lovely city of Barcelona, Spain. We hope to meet you again next year for SENSORNETS 2014, details of which will soon be available at http://www.sensornets.org.
