This book contains the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Sensor Networks (SENSORNETS 2016), which is sponsored and organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with ACM SIGAPP, ACM SIGMETRICS, ACM SIGOPS, IET and IFSA.
The Conference Program includes oral presentations (full papers and short papers) and poster presentations, organized in five simultaneous tracks: “Sensor Networks Software and Architectures”, “Wireless Information Networks”, "Energy and Environment", "Intelligent Data Analysis and Processing" and "Security and Privacy in Sensor Networks". Furthermore, we are proud to announce that the plenary program also includes two plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely Christos Douligeris (University of Piraeus, Greece) and (Roger Wattenhofer, ETH Zurich, Switzerland).
SENSORNETS 2016 received 48 paper submissions from more than 25
countries, of every continent. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are carefully elected and are highly qualified researchers in SENSORNETS topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, 6 papers were selected as full papers which led to a full paper acceptance ratio of 13%. This strict acceptance ratio shows the intention to preserve a high quality forum which we expect to develop further next year. A post-conference Special Issue of the Information Fusion Journal (Impact Factor: 3.681) is planned for publication of revised and extended versions of selected high quality papers presented during SENSORNETS 2016, as well as it is planned to publish a short list of revised and extended versions of presented papers with Springer in a CCIS Series book. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library.
In order to promote the excellence of young researchers and to encourage them in their future contributions, the "Best Student Paper Award" is conferred to the author(s) of the best full paper presented at SENSORNETS 2016, selected by the Program/Conference Chairs based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing as assessed by the Program Committee, and based on the paper presentation quality as assessed by the Session Chairs.
The SENSORNETS conference series intends to be a meeting place where information exchange occurs and where collaboration projects emerge from social contacts amongst the participants.
We would like to express our thanks to all participants, and particularly to the authors, whose quality works provide the essence of this conference. Secondly we owe gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a sizable and reputable conference is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team.
We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in the lovely city of Rome, Italy. We hope to meet you again next year for SENSORNETS 2017, details of which will soon be available at http://www.sensornets.org.
