Biological signals have become present in a wide range of applications based on several areas related to signal acquisition and signal classification. These types of signals have constructed a multidisciplinary view where experts from life sciences join the engineering producing some of the most notable present time systems working in the limits of the human research. We have seen the opening of fertile new areas discovering and explaining some of the complexity of the human being, uncovering part of the mysteries of our body, brain and genetic code. Our first edition of the workshop in Biosignal Processing and Classification, aims to join the multidisciplinary views of scientist that are producing insight work in the fields related with Biosignals. This volume contains all the papers presented at BPC 2005, held in Barcelona, Spain, September 13, 2005. This workshop is a satellite event of the ICINCO 2005 conference. A total of 20 papers were selected from 29 submitted papers, for
oral presentation arranged in a single track program. In addition, we invited the distinguished researcher Kevin Warwick (UK) to give a keynote address as the opening workshop talk. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the members of the program committee for doing an excellent job in reviewing the papers which has resulted in ensuring a high quality proceedings. Special thanks go to the invited speaker for the valuable contribution. We would also like to acknowledge all the authors for submitting papers, and all the participants who made this meeting successful. Special thanks are due to the invited speakers for their valuable contributions. We also would like to acknowledge all the authors and the other participants who contributed to the success of this meeting. Thanks to Marina Carvalho of INSTICC for secretarial and editorial support.
