Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 6th International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and Communication Systems (PECCS 2016) which was sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), co-sponsored by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, held in cooperation with ACM SIGAPP, Euromicro, IET – The Institution of Engineering and Technology and EURASIP. The proceedings here published demonstrate new and innovative solutions and highlight technical problems in each field that are challenging and worthwhile being disseminated to the interested research audiences. PECCS 2016, a joint conference composed by PEC – International Conference on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and SPCS – International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems, which was organized to promote a discussion forum between researchers, developers, manufacturers and end-users, about the conference’s research topics and to establish guidelines in the development of more advanced solutions. We are proud to inform that the program includes also four plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely Siegfried Benkner (University of Vienna, Austria), Maria R. Ebling (IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, United States), Hamid Aghvami (King's College London, United Kingdom) and Mateo Valero (Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya, Spain). PECCS 2016 received 25 paper submissions and to evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in PECCS topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, only 4 papers were selected as full papers, 7 as short papers and 1 paper was selected for poster presentation. The full paper acceptance ratio was 16%. These strict acceptance ratios show the intention to preserve a high quality forum which we expect to develop further next year. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. In order to promote the excellence of young researcher and to encourage them in their future contributions, the "Best Student Paper Award" will be conferred to the author(s) of a full paper presented at the conference, selected by the Program/Conference Chairs based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, assessed by the Program Committee, and paper presentation quality, assessed by session chairs at the conference venue. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference; secondly to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in the lovely city of Lisbon, Portugal. We hope to meet you again next year for the 6th PECCS, details of which will soon be available at http://www.peccs.org. (More)
