Foreword: This volume contains the proceedings of the 8th International Joint conference on Software Technologies (ICSOFT 2013) which is co-organized by the Reykjavik University (RU) and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). The purpose of ICSOFT - since 2013 designated as the International Joint Conference on Software Technologies - is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners working in areas that are related to software engineering and applications. ICSOFT is composed of two co-located conferences ICSOFT-PT, which specializes in new software paradigm trends, and ICSOFT-EA, which specializes in mainstream software engineering and applications. Together, these conferences aim at becoming a major meeting point for software engineers worldwide. ICSOFT-PT (8th International Conference on Software Paradigm Trends) focuses on four main paradigms that have been intensively studied during the last decade for software and system design, namely "Models", "Aspects", "Services" and "Context". ICSOFT-EA (8th International Conference on Software Engineering and Applications) has a practical focus on software engineering and applications. The conference tracks are "Enterprise Software Technologies", "Software Engineering and Systems Security", "Distributed Systems", and "Software Project Management". ICSOFT 2013 received 121 paper submissions from 42 countries. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper evaluation method was used: each paper was reviewed by at least two internationally known experts from the ICSOFT Program Committee. In total 75 papers are published in these proceedings and presented at the conference. Of these, 9 papers were selected to be published as full papers and 66 papers were selected as short papers. The full paper acceptance ratio was 7%, and the short paper acceptance ratio was 55%. As in previous editions of the conference, based on the reviewers’ evaluations and on the presentations, a short list of authors will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for a book which will be published by Springer with the best papers of ICSOFT 2013. ICSOFT’s program includes a panel to discuss aspects of software development from both theoretical and practical perspectives, with the participation of distinguished world-class researchers and practitioners. Furthermore, the program is enriched by several keynote lectures delivered by renowned experts in areas relevant to ICSOFT. These high points in the conference program definitely contribute to reinforce the overall quality of the ICSOFT conference. The program for this conference required the dedicated effort of many people. Firstly, we must thank the authors, whose research efforts are herewith recorded. Next, we thank the members of the Program Committee and the additional reviewers for their diligent and professional reviewing. Last but not least, we thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for taking the time to prepare their talks. Special thanks to the leadership, faculty and staff of Reykjavik University (RU) for hosting the conference in its campus and providing RU facilities and resources. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the INSTICC team; organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. A successful conference involves more than paper presentations; it is also a meeting place, where ideas about new research projects and other ventures are discussed and debated. Therefore, a social event & banquet have been arranged for the evening of July 30 (Tuesday) in order to promote this kind of social networking. We wish you all an exciting conference and an unforgettable stay in the city of Reykjavík. We hope to meet you again next year at ICSOFT 2014 in Vienna, Austria. (More)
