Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health (ICT4AWE 2020) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with ACM SIGACCESS - ACM’s Special Interest Group on Accessible Computing, IMIA - International Medical Informatics Association, Porto4Ageing and Health On the Net Foundation. This year ICT4AWE was, exceptionally, held as a web-based event, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from 3 - 5 May. ICT4AWE is an annual meeting point for those that study and apply Information and Communication Technologies for improving the quality of life of the elderly and for helping people stay healthy, independent and active at work or in their community along their whole life. ICT4AWE facilitates the exchange of information and dissemination of best practices, innovation and technical improvements in the fields of age-related health care, education, social coordination and ambient assisted living. The 2020 conference brought together researchers and practitioners interested in methodologies and applications related to the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health fields. It had three main topic areas: (1) Aging Well – Social and Human Sciences Perspective, (2) Ambient Intelligence and Independent Living and (3) Telemedicine and E-Health. We believe these proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight challenging and worthwhile ICT approaches and solutions in the domain of ageing well and e-Health. ICT4AWE 2020 received 50 paper submissions from 29 countries, of which 24% were accepted as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are renowned researchers in the ICT4AWE topic areas. The high quality of the ICT4AWE 2020 programme was enhanced by three keynote lectures, delivered by experts in their fields, namely: Raian Ali (Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar), Maurice Mulvenna (Ulster University, United Kingdom) and Jan Gulliksen (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden). The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), EI (Elsevier Index), Scopus, Semantic Scholar, Google Scholar and DBLP. All presented papers will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Furthermore, a short list of presented papers will be selected and their authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to be included in a forthcoming book of ICT4AWE Selected Papers to be published in the CCIS Series by Springer Verlag. The best regular and position papers and the best student submissions were distinguished with awards based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation at the conference. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated effort of many people. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of the Conference. We would also like to express our gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for taking the time to synthesize and prepare their talks. Finally, we gratefully acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for all organizational processes, especially given the need to introduce online streaming, forum management, direct messaging facilitation and other web-based activities in order to make it possible for ICT4AWE 2020 authors to present their work and share ideas with colleagues in spite of the logistic difficulties caused by the current pandemic situation. We hope that all colleagues who participated in the conference and/or read its proceedings, find this a fruitful and inspiring conference. We hope to contribute to the development of the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health community and look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of ICT4AWE, details of which are available at http://www.ict4ageingwell.org/.
