Foreword: On behalf of the steering committee, we welcome you to GRAPP 2007, the 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics Theory and Applications. This conference aims at becoming a major point of contact between researchers, engineers and practitioners in Computer Graphics. In the second year of this new venue the conference program includes four keynote lectures and a Panel where the Keynote Speakers will discuss “Computer Graphics and Vision: Common issues and important challenges”. The conference is organised in nine plenary sessions where full papers will be presented and four parallel sessions to present the short papers and posters in order to give the widest possible view on this technical area. Furthermore, a special session on Non Graphical issues on Augmented and Virtual Realities has been arranged. We expect the technical program, that approaches areas like “Geometry & Modelling”, “Rendering”, “Animation & Simulation” or “Interactive Environments”, to appeal to a global audience of engineers, scientists, and business people interested in the research topics of GRAPP. We believe that the proceedings here published, demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight technical problems in each field that are challenging and worthwhile. This second edition of GRAPP has received a high number of paper submissions, 136 in total, with contributions from more than 40 countries in all five continents which attest to the success and global dimension of GRAPP. To evaluate each submission, we used a double-blind evaluation method. To this end, each paper was reviewed by at least three experts from the International Program Committee. In the end, 36 papers were selected for oral presentation and for publication as full papers, 27 papers were accepted for short presentation and 15 were accepted for poster presentation. The result was a full-paper acceptance ratio below 27% and a high-quality program that is attractive to experts from Computer Graphics area. Furthermore, a short list of about 10 papers will be selected to be expanded into a forthcoming book to be published by Springer in 2007. Also, expanded versions of selected papers will be published in the Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting. In order to promote the development of professional networks the organizing committee has prepared a Conference Dinner in the evening of 10th March (Saturday). We hope that you enjoy this exciting conference and have an unforgettable stay in the beautiful city of Barcelona. Finally, we would like to express our thanks, first of all, to the authors of the technical papers, whose work and dedication make possible to put together a program that we believe very exciting and of high technical quality. Next, we would like to thank all the members of the program committee and reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for sharing their vision in their talks. Special thanks should be addressed to the INSTICC Steering Committee, especially Bruno Encarnação and Marina Carvalho, whose invaluable work made possible this event. (More)
