Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Photonics, Optics and Laser Technology (PHOTOPTICS 2018) which was sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). PHOTOPTICS 2018 was held in in cooperation with the Italian Society of Optics and Photonics (SIOF), the Portuguese Society of Materials (SPM), the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), the European Optical Society (EOS) and the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS). It was technically sponsored by the IEEE Photonics Society and the Science and Technology Events (SCITEVENTS) was the Logistics Partner. The Conference Program included oral presentations (full papers and short papers) and posters, organized in three simultaneous tracks: “Optics”, “Photonics” and “Lasers”. We are proud to announce that the program included also four plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely – Pablo Albella (Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain), Maurizio Ferrari (Istituto di Fotonica e Nanotecnologie (CNR-IFN), Italy), Bill Graham (Queens University of Belfast, United Kingdom) and Kevin MacDonald (Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, United Kingdom). PHOTOPTICS received 75 paper submissions from 28 countries. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in PHOTOPTICS topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, 18 papers were selected as full papers which led to a full paper acceptance ratio of 24%. These strict acceptance ratios show the intention to preserve a high quality forum which we expect to develop further next year. A short list of papers from the submitted ones will be selected for publication, as review book chapters, in a special Springer edition book in Optical Sciences Series. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Conferences are also meeting places where collaboration projects can emerge from social contacts amongst the participants. Therefore, in order to promote the development of research and professional networks the Conference included in its social program a Conference Social Event & Banquet in the evening of January 26th, 2018. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference; secondly to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. The organization distributed three paper awards at the conference closing session. A "Best Paper Award", "Best Student Paper Award" and a “Best Poster Award” was conferred to the author(s) of the best papers presented at the conference, selected by the Program/Conference Chairs based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, assessed by the Program Committee, and paper presentation quality, assessed by session chairs at the conference venue. We wish you all an inspiring conference. We hope to meet you again next year for the 7th PHOTOPTICS, details of which will soon be available at http://www.photoptics.org. (More)
