Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Computer Supported Education (CSEDU 2016) held in Rome, Italy from 21 to 23 of April 2016. This conference was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). This conference was held in Cooperation with ACM SIGITE - ACM Special Interest Group for Information Technology Education, ACM SIGMIS - ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems, ASEE - American Society for Engineering Education, ATIEF - Association des Technologies de l'Information pour l'Education et la Formation, SPEE - Portuguese Society for Engineering Education, IELA - International E-Learning Association, ESERA - European Science Education Research Association, ICDE - International Council for Open and Distance Education, SADE - Swedish Association for Distance Education and ITD - Istituto per le Tecnologie Didattiche. The conference was also technically co-sponsored by IGIP - International Society for Engineering Education. CSEDU has become an annual meeting place for presenting and discussing learning paradigms, best practices and case studies that concern innovative computer-supported learning strategies, institutional policies on technology-enhanced learning including learning from distance, supported by technology. The Web is currently a preferred medium for distance learning and the learning practice in this context is usually referred to as e-learning or technology-enhanced learning. CSEDU 2016 provided an overview of the state of the art in technology-enhanced learning, outlined upcoming trends and promoted discussions about the educational potential of new learning technologies in the academic and corporate world. This conference brought together researchers and practitioners interested in methodologies and applications related to the education field. It had five main topic areas, covering different aspects of Computer Supported Education, including “Information Technologies Supporting Learning”, “Learning/Teaching Methodologies and Assessment”, “Social Context and Learning Environments”, “Domain Applications and Case Studies” and “Ubiquitous Learning.” We believe these proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions and highlight technical problems in each field that are challenging and worthwhile. CSEDU 2016 received 165 paper submissions from 49 countries, of which 18% were accepted as full papers. The high quality of the papers received imposed difficult choices in the review process. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified independent researchers in the CSEDU 2016 topic areas. The high quality of the CSEDU 2016 programme was enhanced by four keynote lectures, delivered by experts in their fields, including (alphabetically): Alison Clark-Wilson (University College London, United Kingdom), Francisco Arcega (Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain), Leon Rothkrantz (Delft University of Technology, Netherlands) and Margaret Ross (Southampton Solent University, United Kingdom). The meeting was also complemented with a Doctoral Consortium on “Computer Supported Education” chaired by Giuliana Dettori, Istituto per le Tecnologie Didattiche (ITD-CNR), Italy. All presented papers will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus, as well as being made available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Furthermore, a short list of presented papers will be selected and their authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to be included in a forthcoming book of CSEDU Selected Papers to be published in CCIS Series by Springer Verlag during 2016. The best contributions to the conference and the best student submissions were distinguished with awards based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as assessed by chairs at the conference venue. The winners will be listed in the conference website along with the winners of the previous editions, available at http://www.csedu.org/PreviousAwards.aspx. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated effort of many people. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this Conference. We would also like to express our gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. Furthermore, we thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for taking the time to synthesize and prepare their talks. Finally, we gratefully acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for all organizational processes. (More)
