Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health (ICT4AWE 2022) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with ACM SIGACCESS - ACM’s Special Interest Group on Accessible Computing and IMIA - International Medical Informatics Association. This year ICT4AWE was held as a web-based event, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from 23 to 25 April 2022. ICT4AWE is an annual meeting point for those that study and apply Information and Communication Technologies for helping people to age well and live healthy, independent and active at work or in their community along their whole life. ICT4AWE facilitates the exchange of information and dissemination of best practices, innovation and technical improvements in the fields of age-related health care, education, social coordination and ambient assisted living. The 2022 conference brought together researchers and practitioners interested in methodologies and applications related to the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health fields. It had three main topic areas: (1) Ageing Well – Social and Human Sciences Perspective, (2) Telemedicine and Independent Living and (3) Digital Health and e-health. We believe these proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight challenging and worthwhile ICT approaches and solutions in the domain of ageing well and e-Health. ICT4AWE 2022 received 50 paper submissions from 24 countries, of which 24% were accepted as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are international researchers in the ICT4AWE topic areas. The papers submitted and accepted for the conference contribute to the understanding of relevant trends of current research on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health. The high quality of the ICT4AWE 2022 programme was enhanced by four keynote lectures, delivered by experts in their fields, namely Arlene J. Astell (University of Toronto, Canada), Jesse Hoey (University of Waterloo, Canada), Ray Jones (University of Plymouth, United Kingdom) and Sabine Koch (Karolinska Institutet, Sweden). The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by SCOPUS, Google Scholar, The DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, Semantic Scholar, Engineering Index (EI) and Web of Science / Conference Proceedings Citation Index. All presented papers will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Furthermore, a short list of presented papers will be selected, and their authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to be included in a forthcoming book of ICT4AWE Selected Papers to be published in the CCIS Series by Springer. The best regular and position papers, including student contributions, were distinguished with awards based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation at the conference. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated effort of many people. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of the Conference. We would also like to express our gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for taking the time to synthesize and prepare their talks. Finally, we gratefully acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for all organizational processes, especially given the need to introduce online streaming, forum management, direct messaging facilitation and other web-based activities in order to make it possible for ICT4AWE 2022 authors to present their work and share ideas with colleagues in spite of the logistic difficulties caused by the current pandemic situation. We hope that all colleagues who participated in the conference and/or read its proceedings, find this a fruitful and inspiring conference. We hope to contribute to the development of the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health community and look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of ICT4AWE, details of which are available at https://ict4awe.scitevents.org/.
